About paulefallon

Greetings reader. I am a writer, architect, cyclist and father from Cambridge, MA. My primary blog, theawkwardpose.com is an archive of all my published writing. The title refers to a sequence of three yoga positions that increase focus and build strength by shifting the body’s center of gravity. The objective is balance without stability. My writing addresses opposing tension in our world, and my attempt to find balance through understanding that opposition. During 2015-2106 I am cycling through all 48 mainland United States and asking the question "How will we live tomorrow?" That journey is chronicled in a dedicated blog, www.howwillwelivetomorrw.com, that includes personal writing related to my adventure as well as others' responses to my question. Thank you for visiting.

Cambodia Impressions

I spent two weeks over the Christmas holiday visiting Cambodia and my daughter Abby, who is a Peace Corps Volunteer in a rural village in Pursat Province. After flying 10,000 miles, we traversed only about 200 miles of Cambodia, focusing … Continue reading

Common Sense

Happy New Year to all of my readers. When I was in the forth grade I read a biography of Thomas Paine.  Actually, I gobbled it down in one sitting. For those who remember Tom Paine, he was the patriot … Continue reading

The Wallet

This is a short story that came to me, all in one piece, in a dream.  It is surely one of the most bizarre Christmas stories ever, though the holiday plays only a small role.  Or does it?  I welcome anyone whose inclined to suggest why … Continue reading

Provincetown Library: A Surprising Beauty

Massachusetts supports it public libraries. Since 1990 the State has funded construction or extensive renovation of 200 libraries throughout the State. As a long time supporter of public libraries I often stop into local libraries. I particularly like to visit … Continue reading

iPhone Psyche

Word is out that I’ve joined the twenty-first century.  It only took about three months of regular visits to the Apple Store, playing with the button and screen, enduring enthusiastic techies, being sneered at for wanting an iPhone 5 just … Continue reading

The Day JFK was Shot

Every one of us who was alive that day recalls the moment we learned that President Kennedy was shot.  No matter how ordinary, the instant is fixed in our mind and enshrined with significance. I was a chubby eight-year-old boy walking … Continue reading

Seek

After practicing Bikram yoga for four years, I’ve had the new age aspects of yoga pretty much drummed out of me.  Bikram strives to be scientific rather than mystical.  During the non-stop ninety-minute dialogue, one word never uttered is Namaste. … Continue reading

Losing My Mind – Part One

It’s taken me two years to actually write this post. That’s when I first realized my mind is slipping away and it would be a good idea to document what I still know. Which, by omission, will chronicle what I’ve … Continue reading

A Final Haitian Exchange

The Hotel Olaffson was distinctly less magical on the morning of the Day of the Dead. I got up shortly after seven to dress and pack; we had to leave for the airport by eight.  I decided to replenish our … Continue reading
