About paulefallon

Greetings reader. I am a writer, architect, cyclist and father from Cambridge, MA. My primary blog, theawkwardpose.com is an archive of all my published writing. The title refers to a sequence of three yoga positions that increase focus and build strength by shifting the body’s center of gravity. The objective is balance without stability. My writing addresses opposing tension in our world, and my attempt to find balance through understanding that opposition. During 2015-2106 I am cycling through all 48 mainland United States and asking the question "How will we live tomorrow?" That journey is chronicled in a dedicated blog, www.howwillwelivetomorrw.com, that includes personal writing related to my adventure as well as others' responses to my question. Thank you for visiting.

Route 6A Brewster

Bicycling to Cape Cod is becoming an annual tradition. This week I rode to Eastham to visit Jan and Mike Golan, pedaled to Falmouth to see my son, and then returned to Cambridge.   Cape Cod Baseball League game each night, … Continue reading

Long June Days

Memories pile steep this time of year. The sun hangs in the sky for more than fifteen hours. More years rest within the vaults of my mind than will span future horizons. Long June days remind me of Minnie Diver, an … Continue reading

Wishing me Gone

Cambridge is a great bicycle city. We have more bicycle lanes per square mile than neighboring communities. We have protected cycling lanes, Hubway bike stations, designated parking areas, public repair stations, even a bicycle jug handle in Harvard Square.  I … Continue reading

One Breath to One Movement

Sequencing is the term we use for the series of yoga poses that we put together to create a coherent class. Like most things in this world, sequencing is something I never thought about until I had to do it, … Continue reading

It’s My Party – Come Any Way You LIke

Longstanding social customs allow hosts to recommend appropriate dress for an occasion: casual for garden parties; business attire for cocktail events; black tie for society weddings.  Announcing parameters around dress enable the host to establish a tone. If you arrive … Continue reading

My Chakras / My Asanas

Specific yoga poses draw from, and contribute to, how the seven chakras exist within each of us. In theory, chakras strength and asana strength correlate.  I decided to investigate that in terms of my own practice. Consider the seven Chakras … Continue reading

ICA’s World of Glass

There isn’t much in this world as variable in terms of quality and meaning as contemporary art. Some pieces are sublime; others provoke no response at all. I visit Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art (free on Thursday evenings) several times … Continue reading

Maslow and the Chakras

Human nature strives for structure and understanding. In studying the seven chakras, which are thousands of years old, I’m struck by how Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need aligns with this ancient tradition.   First, consider the seven Chakras: 1. Muladhara – … Continue reading
